Scarecrows for Good
Be the envy of your neighborhood while supporting your community!
The harvest scarecrow raffle has been a tradition at MVM for decades. In 2020, we put a new twist on the tradition by turning it into an Adolescent Community service project called Scarecrows for Good. Run by the 7th and 8th grade students in the AC Community Outreach Leadership Committee, Scarecrows for Good raises money for a charity selected by the AC class.
Each year, students in the Community Outreach Leadership Committee choose charities which are important to them. They research these charities and presentations are made to the rest of their class. The 7th and 8th graders then vote to select one charity. Each classroom at MVM creates a scarecrow to be raffled off.
This year, all money raised will go to the Eddy House, the AC selected charity. The Eddy House is a non-profit organization that helps young people ages 18 to 24. They help homeless kids, kids that aged out of foster care, kids in bad living conditions, and runaway kids. The Eddy House is a daytime care center and an overnight shelter. They provide classes, healthcare assistance, counseling, and more, helping young people with life skills that lead into the outside world. Their hope is to end homelessness for youth in Northern Nevada.
